Miami Zone President's Report February 2018

The Miami Zone is made up of the following societies: Adair, Bartlesville, Claremore, Fairland, Grove, Miami, Owasso, Pryor and Vinita. I have recently learned that Skiatook may want to have a society again. I will be in contact with them. Communication had been an issue for our Zone, but I think we have made improvements in that area. I was able to put together an updated list of each society in regard to their meeting times, member numbers, pastor, and LWML leadership. Our PR Representative, Debbie Lindemeier has done a great job in getting information out to our society leaders.

In October, we had several members of our Zone attend the retreat at Camp Hinton. What a relaxing and refreshing time. Thank you, Young Women for all the planning and work that you did to make it so enjoyable.

Regular society meetings are held which include Bible study from the Quarterly, mite collection and time for fellowship. Below is a list of several of the societies and special projects that have recently been completed:

Owasso – LWML Teen group gathered stuffed animals and blankets for the police.

Bartlesville – Collection of money from congregation to purchases gift cards for needy families in our church, poinsettias to our shut-ins, Valentine card making for shut-ins and nursing home residents.

Grove – Newly organized “Ladies Day Out” to meet a couple times a year. In November, they went to Claremore for lunch at Belvidere Mansion and then to Owasso to shop for Christmas décor for their church sanctuary.

Vinita – Participated in four different activities with the local agencies of the Salvation Army, Rose Rock, DHS, and Vinita High School food boxes distributed throughout Vinita.

Pryor – Food collection to make 25 backpacks for Osage School children that were given to them for Thanksgiving break. Collected personal hygiene items for Pryor Ministerial Alliance. In December, they filled large Christmas boxes with staple items that were distributed to five families. Thrivent Action Team money was used to purchase milk, eggs, oil, flour, sugar and fresh fruits. Another 25 backpacks were filled with fresh fruits for children.

May we continue to use our hands to complete His work, our hearts to share His love, and our heads to pray for and serve His children.

Serving with You, Anita Gard

Miami Zone Fall Fest

September 9, 2017

Our Zone Fall Fest was held on September 9, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairland, OK. A total of 46 people were in attendance which included 42 ladies and 4 Pastors. Pastor Leo Schroeder, St. Paul, Fairland, led our opening and closing devotions. Pastor Dwight Moeller, Bethlehem, Adair, was our Bible study leader. We voted in Amy Moeller, as Vice President, Joan Anderson, as Secretary and Debbie Lindemeier, as PR, to replace these positions that had been vacated.

Dianna Just was our District Representative and our mission speaker. She showed the National Mission Grant video and used a power point to share pictures and information about her Alaska Mission for Christ trip to Ninilchik, Alaska. This was her fourth trip to help put on VBS. She will be going back again in June 2018.

Amy Moeller was our zone delegate for the National Convention in Albuquerque. She gave a recap of her experience and provided important information from the convention.

Gifts of the Heart collection was for the Miami Community Crisis Center. We collected many school supplies, canned foods, paper products and cleaning supplies.

Since Fall Fest a number of kits have been prepared and sent to Lutheran World Relief and other organizations. The societies are finishing up 2017 with mite box Sundays, bake sale fundraisers, sewing projects and collections. Thrivent Action Teams help to make our money go farther. ~Anita Gard, Miami Zone President
